I only have 1 processor, windows see 2 processors?

Some one please help. I just realised recently when i see in my Windows XP "System Information" i have 2 processor in my comp.

I only have one Processor.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and using P4 3.06GHz

You could have like mentioned above dual core or single core with hyperthreading enable.

Dual cores are multiple processors inside one die(chip).

Hyperthreading is a technique that tricks your operating system into thinking there is more then one processor on system.

Depending on the type of bios in your system you might have a option to turn this off..

You may have a dual core or Hyperthreadded processor.

you got a dual core CPU. it means that your computer's CPU is made of two cpus into one.

basic idea is to make it work faster with releasing less heat by dividing the work between two inner cpus
Looks like you are running a dual core processor.
P4 3.06GHz is a single core processor with hyperthreading. Windows sees it as 2 CPUs... which is a bit of a pig if you've got a PC with 2 of these in as they are seen as 4 CPUs... and your windows license only covers 1-2 CPUs. Spooked me out the first time I saw one of these in task manager... it divided the CPU use graph into 2, one for each hyper threaded pseudo CPU.

It's not a dual core as the dual cores are not up to that speed yet.
