Why does Windows XP Pro take so long to startup?

It takes up to 3 minutes sometimes. This is when the xp logo is on the screen saying its loading. I have a pretty good computer. I disabled most of the start up programs and checked and removed spyware via spybot sd and adaware. I have no virus according to Avast. I also used Ccleaner to clean the registry.

micrsoft claims that professional is faster than home edition. im not so sure bout that but i have an athlon 64 x2 4400 processor, 3gb of ram and xp pro. it boots in like a minute at most. maybe ram. i removed 1 gb from my pc and it was noticabely slower at startup. maybe RAM.
xp sometimes has problems like this. it is very slow with everything.
Windows is a pig, and always has been.
