Upgrading from windows ME to windows XP?windows 98

hi there,

thats not true.

Windows XP is a work of art. All you need to do is tell it where to inatall.

1) insert the disc

2) Hit setup (if allready booted)

3)or restart with disc in computer allready

4) select your installation is DOS mode (don worry, its walk thru)

5) agree terms. hit the apt button. (shownonscree)

6) it will find your old installation, and ask youwether to repair or install new.,,,,,, install new

7) select your hard disk's partiton

8) Never install two operating syatems in same drive

9) dont format the partion with ME init because onceyou install XP, it wont allow you to install old versions.

10) oh! delete and create the partiton you wish to install without making any changes to the size.

11) it will as for format, select quick format FAT32' or NTFS

12) it will install... done...

get linux as backup.

-----------

system req. you know! get latest.... minimum is p3 with 600mhz and 128mb ram.

Not true. Pop your Windows XP in and let the installation wizard guide you through the rest.
windows XP is so much better.. no you will not need windows millenium edition to install XP.. XP is way more stable and never crashes.. you will enjoy it alot more..
reformat and install windows XP.

don't use the upgrade...
Upgrade version means, it will first check for the installed windows part then just upgrade the required components.

Whereas full version means, it will simply format the harddisk (If you want so), and then reinstall the entire XP.

I suggest you to go for Full version it will be easy and very helpful for you in future even, if you want to reinstall or repair your XP version.
While you are asking about an upgrade to XP, you're also saying that you'd like the most economical option.

May I suggest that you switch to Ubuntu Linux?

Trust me, you'll be happy, because it's comparatively bug free and very robust, unlike MS Windows.

And, what's better is that the legal version is an absolutely free of cost download that you can make your own Installation CD with and install yourself.

Also comes with a free of cost MS Office substitute called OpenOffice!

Save yourself a lot of money and worry by going Linux.

Download the free Software at the first link given below and take a printout of the Installation Tutorial from the second link given below and burn your CD and install it.

All the best.

Cheers.
You can choose to upgrade to windows xp from windows me.. You don't need to have the windows me cd when upgrading to xp

However, it is recommended that you make a clean install of windows xp instead of upgrading and keep a backup up of your documents
If you can afford a full version, I suggest to re-istall than upgrade. Upgrade has some issues in perfomance and stability. Backup your C drive's needed data to D: or other drive, get Full version CD and install it by formatting the C: Drive to NTFS. Im a Sys N/W admin working as a snr Engineer in MNCs for last 7 years and found fresh installation is way better tha upgrade in any OS.
