Windows XP will install fine on top of the existing ME.

If there's nothing on the Millenium machine you want and you have a Windows Millenium disc then the best thing to do would be to format the drive before attempting to install XP.

You should be able to set up the machine to boot from CD. After formatting, restart the machine with the XP disc in the drive. It will go through the installation checks and (assuming it is an upgrade disc), it will tell you it is an upgrade disc and it must have an existing copy of Windows. Put your ME disc in the machine, it will check it then ask for the XP disc again and do a clean install.

*YES ITS SAFE but when it asks if you want to format the hard drive click yes this will wipe the m/e off and your hard drive will be clean
As above - no problem - just be glad to get rid of that awful ME
You will have some problems. There is no upgrade path from millenium to XP so it would have to be a clean install. If the computer is old enough to be running millenium then more than likely it will not boot using the cdrom. If it does great if not you will have to go to www.bootdisk.com and create a bootable floppy with cdrom support.
Be sure you have the product ID for the xp disk before you begin, but it will upgrade the ME fine.
No problem, install XP on your computer it will walk you through.

Clean install means reformatting your hard drive. When you format your computer all information on your hard drive is gone.
yes what everyone is saying...

very important though...make sure you have that product ID or else you wont get your XP and be stuck with ME
