Install WIN XP SP2 by copying the needed files?

Is it possible to install windows xp by copying the files from the C: drive of one computer onto another? I am having problems because the XP CD says that It can not find any harddives.

You can always copy files but that will NOT solve your problem.



If your XP disk does not detect the hard drive then Windows cannot be installed, unless you resolve the hardware problem.



Open the computer case and make sure the power cable and the cable going to the hard drive are both securely attached.



Then try to reboot and see if the hard drive is detected during the boot up process. If not go into the BIOS and check the setting. (Caution setting the BIOS wrong can cause the computer to NOT work)



Until the hard drive is detected Windows cannot be installed.



You may need a new hard drive



EDIT: You are now asking how to dual boot from an Installed version of windows VISTA with an option to boot WIndows XP It can be done but it is not an easy process. Go here:

Before starting it is best to download a version of VistaBootPRO You will probably need this program to boot to VISTA after Installing XP.

i cant say abt your srves but you cannot install it like that.....you should install it properly
