I just did a system recovery on my computer and it came with Windows XP sp1 and I heard I should upgrade to SP2 so I went to the windows website to do so. But I think I'm having even more problems with SP2 because it doesn't let me view certain Java applications and will not allow me to download Java, I have tried everything, even spent time with Microsoft Tech support to help but they aren't really that helpful. Should I remove SP2 and stay with SP1?
Windows SP1 vs SP2?microsoft xp
Use SP2.
SP1 is even more bug ridden and insecure than SP2.
Windows SP1 vs SP2?download windows xp internet explorer
i wouldnt i would go 2 the windows update site and update ur jave i did and have never had a problem with sp2 i luv it
I also had this problem.
I did what was best for my system really. Although the SP2 does protect the computer more, it's not worth not being able to do the things you enjoy online. So just remove it and make sure you turn FIREWALL on and have a good ANTIVIRUS for your computer.
But, this should fix the problem and you should be ok, since I'm fine without it.
keep sp2, try reinstalling it and then try to downloading the newest java
microsoft no longer offers support for SP1 and you cant get IE7 for it either...try downloading SP2 again...its much better
You must have SP2!!!!
You should not have any problems if you are running genuine windows!!! Do you? Have you done the checking required by Microsoft before you download any updates? If not, do that.
Also, before you do any of the above, do the following maintenance steps and see what happens.
Good luck
Note:
Before doing any of the maintenance steps outlined below make sure that your system is free from viruses and/or of any other undesirable Internet bugs, by running a thorough security scan of your machine
Now, you are ready for the following:
HOW TO DO A THOROUGH CLEAN UP (Windows XP; IE6)
While you are connected to the Internet do the following:
1. Click on tools ... Internet options. There you will see three buttons next to each other... “Delete Cookies” ... “Delete Files” and “Settings.” Also, below the settings button you will see another one “Clear history.”
2. Click on “settings” - go to “Edit” - Click on “select all” - Go to files, click delete and wait till all Internet trash files are gone.
3. Go back and click on “delete cookies” and wait till all cookies are gone
4. Go back and click on “Delete files,” put a check mark on the little white square shown on the small window that will open, click OK and wait for a little.
5. Go back and click on “Clear history”, click “yes” and you are done.
6. Now do a check disk and a defrag, then restart your computer and see if the problem is resolved. It is assumed that you know how to do that.
7. If the above steps don’t do the job, here is a little program that keeps your machine in shape and free from crashes:
Get on the web and go to http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-u... download the free trial program, familiarize your self with it and use it to clean up your registry automatically along with a sort of other helpful and useful maintenance chores. It is an excellent little program and does wonders with PC maintenance tasks and I strongly recommend it! It works on the background on its own automatically.
After you are through with all of the above steps, go to Microsoft/Windows updates and download any and all available and applicable updates.
ADDITIONAL INFO.
Here is how to clean website addresses from you browser bar:
While you are connected to Internet, go to “Tools” … “Internet Options,” “Content” tab … “Auto Complete button” … click on “clear forms” and you are finished.
Hope this helps!
