Dumb question about Windows 98...?

I am looking for a flash drive that will be compatible with my dinosaur of a computer (with Windows 98) and my new computer (Windows XP SP2) to transfer some files from the old to the new. My (dumb) question is, a lot of these flash drives say they're compatible with "Windows 98 SE" and frankly I don't KNOW if I have SE or not! How do I find out???? 10 points to the first person to answer and not laugh at me. :)

Go to control panel and click on System. The display there will tell you what version of 98 you have.

I'm not laughing at an intelligent question.

flash drive should work or you can email to your new computer but thats a slower option

Hope this Helps
On your desk top screen, right click on the MY Computer Icon, then left click properties on the window, it will list what you are using.
just click the start button

on the side of the menu it will tell u the windows name
I had the same problem - you have to buy a flash drive that offers a driver compatble with win98 - pny offers some - attache - it's not easy or fun but you can get it to work
Win98 SE is the second edition of Windows... it has USB drive capability.

Hontrol panel -%26gt; help will tell you the version of win98 you are running.

If you are running win98 you can transfer files directly between the computers using laplink and a special laplink cable (it's basically a serial crossover cable). Or you can use floppy disks (Yech!).

Or you can use an ethernet crossover cable.

Or if you're feeling a bit rad, take the hard disk out of the win98 computer and put it into the winxp one... either as a slave (set jumper to slave) on one of the IDE busses with a disk on or master on the IDE bus with no disk on (depends if your XP machine has the CD/DVD on the same IDE bus as the hard disk). Then you can use XP to copy files off the disk.

Or for real rad, buy a USB disk box and put the win98 disk into the USB disk box, plug into the USB socket of the XP computer and use it as an external drive... and put it back when you've finished.
just get the flash drive 98 and 98se isnt that much of a difference
XP supports flash drives, so don't worry about that.

To check Windows 98 for SE/FE (FE = First Edition, SE = Second Edition)

1. Go to My Computer.

2. Click Help%26gt;About

3. Check if it is 4.10.2222_ version number. Anything can be in place of the underscore.

Yay if you got that right. Plug in your drive and go.
To use flash drives or pen drives or what ever they want to call the, you have to load drivers in windows 98. 98 does not automatically recognize external devices without drivers being installed.
