Why does Windows keep installing updates every time I shut down?

I have Windows XP SP2. Occasionally before I shut down, Automatic Update would install new updates for XP. Recently however, it's been installing this 1 update (not sure what update it is because it only says "Installing 1 of 1 updates") after every shut down. It's become so annoying that I've disabled automatic update. Could I possibly have a virus?

No, is not a virus.

Maybe the update is not able to download or to install the hole thing.

I don't think its a virus. I think you did the right thing by turning off automatic update. I did the same because there's no telling what Microsoft is installing on your computer for better or for worse. Once I have a stable Window's environment I DO NOT like things being automatically install for me since I could cause instability. I suggest that if you really want an update to go to Microsoft website and read about the update and research online to see if that update doesn't cause any problems before you go ahead with the update.
