I have a Logitech G7 laser mouse on an XP sp2 system. The mouse would be perfect if it did not lock up constantly. I freezes for a few seconds (a lifetime [literally] in game play) and then works while longer.
There is nothing, that I can see, that triggers this behavior. I have updated the software and performed the little gimmicks suggested as remedies on Logitech鈥檚 website. I also have an MX Revolution. It works all the time, but not nearly as well as the G7 (when the G7 feels like working).

You might check to see if your pc has a 2.0 plug in. If it has a 1.1 then there could possibly be some conflicting issues. Also is the mouse connected through a hub? If so make sure it is not a 1.1 Might also check to see if your mouse pad is laser mouse friendly if not, you might need to get one that accepts it. Not all mouse pads are the same. Laser friendly seems to be smoother since it does not have a gritty surface like the old wheel scroll mouse pads that need the extra grit to help with the roller.

It's connected by USB, correct?
I have the same problem when I use my USB mouse in the front USB ports of my computer, there's something wrong with them.
Try switching the mouse to a different USB port. The ones in the back worked better than the ones in the front for me.
If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
