I have Win XP. Do I need ALL of the 52 processes that start when I turn it on?

There are 55 items(progs) that start when I turn my computer on. My older computer ran on only 4 when I did "msconfig." I don't know which ones are safe to turn off. I can't tell what all those things listed are for? If I turn off the wrong things my computer may not start again. This calls for professional help! I have Windows XP sp2

55 programs??? are you joking....

remove all the items from startup in msconfig except the antivirus service.

also in services uncheck all the non-microsoft services again except the microsoft services.

nothing will happen to your PC..dont worry about it.

if u want to start any process u can start it manually by going to "services.msc".

damn thats a lot of processes hope you have enough ram or it will be slow as crap
I have a copy of WinXP, but have kept sticking with Win2000. Mainly because it's less confusing to me. Additionally, there are half the amount of services running.

Can't really offer any advice as which services to stop/disable.

But heres my list of Window services running, which I found to be the essentials (non -esentials has been disabled):

crss.exe

explorer.exe

LLSRV.exe (Windows Licensing thing, no biggie)

LSASS.EXE (Windows Licensing thing, no biggie)

services.exe

smss.exe

spoolsv.exe (Spool services (printing))

svchost.exe (4 copies)

winlogin.exe

winmngmnt.exe
get These Programs:

Hijackthis, CCleaner, and Google The first to see the great commmunity around that will help you out; and the second, is pretty self-explanatory.
