This sounds like either a virus or ad-ware. Try this first. Download these they are free programs.

Anti spy and anti virus.

Ad ware also free.

this is a registry cleaner when installing don't install toolbar.

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Once all are loaded don't run yet restart in safe mode ( tap F8 on Reboot) you will get a warning box, click ok run all the above mentioned programs. (get coffee this could be awhile)

do disk clean up with all boxes checked, next do defrag (all still in safe mode) after defrag is complete reboot normally.

This should eliminate problem. If not come back %26amp; we'll try something else.

Hope it helps

Get SP2 from a website like download.com. As for systemupdate. It sounds like your windows is corrupt. simply boot from CD and repair it.

Why does Windows XP freeze while i am installing it?

I am installing xp SP2. It gets to the point where it detects how many harddrives. then it searches for previous versions of windows. it takes a long time to do that. it freezes when you pick what partition on what harddrive to install on. anything i can do? help would be appreciated

Why does Windows XP freeze while i am installing it?microsoft powerpoint

Check the following,

1. CPU fan is working fine (may be your processor overheated).

2. Verify your HARD DISK for bad sectors.

or try to create partition and format the hard disk using thrid-party softwares. Like Nortan Disk Manager or Seagate Disk Utilities.

After that try to install the XP (SP2).

Need more help, reply me.

It sounds like you have low memory on your system. Without more information, I couldn't say for certain.

Make sure that you have enough free memory to install the service pack. If you're not sure what that is, check the microsoft site.
i think ur trying to upgrade or reinstall cuz the same thing happened to me i would say give it 20 - 30 mins b4 u even consider rebooting
How long did you wait? Like the above poster, I'd say wait half an hour. ;)
Because you havent learned the new age **** so you have to hire nerds to fix your computer, wouldnt doubt your like 50 or 60 yearsold YOUR IN THE 21st CENTURY NOW

well good news it has nothing to do with your OS. you need to update your BIOS you can find the most recent updates on the manufacturer's website of your motherboard along with instructions. I strongly suggest you read the instructions carefully
All you have to do is go under device manager and right click the unknown usb port and click properties and click driver and then click update driver, Well you should have downloaded the driver from the manufacturer first but then find where you put the driver and use that and it should work then or after a restart.
may have USB 1 ports and will not work with the device -- not a registry im sure of that one -- umm why the BIOS would stop and give device error - in the Bios would either turn on or off the ports. assuming the driver is installed for the port.

I have a toshiba laptop that is about 3 years old as well and has USB1 ports and some (newer) thumb drives wont work on it
Can't be sure this is the issue but it is possible that your machine is USB 1.1 and the device requires USB 2.0 and will not work on 1.1.

If you do have USB 2.0 you may not have installed the enhanced drivers to activate 2.0.

Just a thought.
I have the same problem I just right clicked on it and disabled it , my computer is running fine without it.

Mp3 player not recognized in windows xp, usb problem?

hello,

i have a problem with my usb drivers I think. Whenever I try to plug a digital camera or mp3 player in it tries and asks me to install drivers. I think that Windows XP normally should have generic drivers for this? I tried to install the drivers from the MP3 Player CD and it says that these are not the right ones.

I have an ECS K7S5A Motherboard with USB 1.1 and Win XP SP2.

On my notebook the devices work without problems and without installing extra drivers.

I deleted the USB Controllers in the device manager and reinstalled it and it didn't help.

Mp3 player not recognized in windows xp, usb problem?windows server 2003

does it take a 2.0 usb port, here is a good driver update place if you ever need any

Mp3 player not recognized in windows xp, usb problem?windows xp service internet explorer

There could be a problem with the MP3 player's driver. Usually you can download updated drivers on the manufacuter's website.
What you need to do is install the BIOS Host controllers. It should be in your Motherboard Drivers CD. If you don't have the CD, u can get the driver's from the Motherboard Maker's site.

Make sure u search the right driver's for your motherboard's model.

Usually this happens in some brand desktop models (Dell, HP, IBM).

If that don't work, there might be a chance that the USB jumpers on the motherboard might be set incorrectly. For that u need to open your desktop %26amp; use the motherboard's manual to locate the USB jumpers.

It's definetly not your MP3 player. If it works on 1 PC, it should work in other PC's.

Hope I answer your question!

My hd already have xp pro sp2 on it .still windows want detect it why?

can i manualy add my hd or something like that?????

My hd already have xp pro sp2 on it .still windows want detect it why?microsoft exchange

I don't understand your question. Maybe you don't even understand it.

Ok, if you are using a computer successfully, you ALREADY HAVE an operating system on it.

So, what exactly is "it" when you say "still windows won't detect it"? Your HD or xp pro sp2????

Did you insert a HD with a copy of xp already on it? Or does you computer just not recognize the fact that you put a new hard drive in?

Ok, if XP doesn't recognize a hard drive, just do this:

1) Make SURE your jumper is placed in the SLAVE position

2) Make sure everything is plugged in correctly... cables and power

3) Make sure you have the correct drivers for your dard drive

Now, if you put in a hard drive with xp pre-installed, it will just plain not work. Why? Because your master boot record indicates that you are ALREADY using a different windows from a different hard drive. AND since it was pre-installed, it would have beem preinstalled on ANOTHER COMPUTER. That means that it ONLY INSTALLED the hardware for the OTHER computer onto that hard drive. In other words, it won't recognize THIS computer.

If you want to run 2 versions of windows on the same computer, you must:

1) Have two hard drives OR partition the hard drive into the correct partitions

2) Install (from YOUR computer) both operating systems in their rightful places (one in each HD or partition)

Now, with that being said, running a duel-boot machine is a VERY advanced thing to do. DO NOT attempt it unless you have READ ALL ABOUT IT and KNOW what you are doing.

Hope that helps!!!

My hd already have xp pro sp2 on it .still windows want detect it why?windows vista ultimate internet explorer

can't detect your system or can't detect your harddrive? try to remove the cables and attatch it again. To test if your pc detects hd try pressing delete button when starting up and boot to bios, you can check your hd if its detected it there. If your system can't be detected, you might have to install your system again which may be caused by corruption of files or other reasons.
have you set the hd to boot off that one in the bios under hard drives? but it is because the bootloader isnt engaing.if you installed it on that machine its probably because the bios doesnt know what drive windows is on

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthr...

you probaly need to change the jumper settings on the drive if its on a different cable as it wont necesaily be the main boot drive
what is hd- hard disk ???

you dont need to add hard disk drivers for windows xp. but if you are using external hard disk, which is non plug and play, they you should install drivers for that device.

How much space should I dedicate to Windows XP?

I have Macbook and currently dual-booting Mac OS and Ubuntu. I want to add windows to this as well. How much space should I dedicate to it.

If I want bare XP Sp2, Microsoft office 2007 Ultimate and Visual Studio Express 2005 C++, C#. Plus bits and pieces?

How much space should I dedicate to Windows XP?windows xp pro

from my personal experience, twenty gigs is plenty, you will get all your updates and have plenty of room for you programs as well,

i personally use minimum of 50 gigs partition for windows xp.

i have big hard drives, i do this on all of my pcs, and then use bigger partitions for different files, i have one for music only . one for videos only and one for pictures and i have changed the drive letters to correspond ie drive V for video , drive M for music, and drive P for pictures , and drive D for documents

but this is the way i do it, you do not have to follow my way, but just use about 20 gigs for xp

this is the link to a group i use you are welcome to join

I'm not sure about how much space Visual Studio will take, but I think about 10 Gb will do fine. Add another Gb for each 512 Mb of RAM you have in your computer, so you'll have room for the swapfile.
10gb
seven is plenty
why bother, youre already using linux, get a different release. i use linspire xp2007, and run windows applications in a VM shell.
If you can manage 10 GB would be sufficient but i would like to know why you want 3 OS on a single machine is it really necessary ?
